How to Play Poker Online For Free

Whenever the topic of poker is brought up, many people show enthusiasm for the game, but they also lament how they do not know much about the rules of the game. From the outside, poker may seem as though it is really complicated, with its various hand combinations and routes to victory. However, the game is extremely intuitive, and players can learn how to play poker online without too much trouble. It is all about putting in the time, and going to the right sources, and you can become a fairly decent poker player sooner than you would think!

Learn to Play Poker for Beginners

Instead of reading a book titled ‘How to Play Poker for Dummies,’ it is better for prospective poker players to take some time to learn the basic rules of the game. When players have a handle on the rules, they will have more room to think creatively about the various strategies they can employ during a poker game. If you are hoping to figure out how to make money playing poker online, you may be getting a little bit ahead of yourself. The first step is to learn how poker is played. Then you will want to understand the different strategies and playing styles you can employ. And when you have played successfully for a few weeks, you can start to think about competing in games where money is at stake.

Texas Holdem Poker Rules:

The most popular version of poker is also the one that is played at a competitive level: Texas Holdem Poker. A game of Texas Holdem Poker always begins with the players being dealt two cards each. These cards are hidden from the view of the opposing players, because you would not want anyone else to see your “hand.” The game begins with one player betting the small blind, and the player next to them puts in the big blind. The small and big blinds vary based on each game. They could have a value of anything from $1 to $100, depending on the overall prize pool of the game. Players are obligated to put in the money when they are the big or small blind, but the other players on the table may fold before putting down any money if they do not like their hand.

After all the players have made their initial bets, or folded, five cards are dealt face down on the table in everyone’s view. The first three of those cards are put face up, allowing everyone to see their value. Another round of betting now takes place, followed by the reveal of the fourth card. After a final round of betting, the final card, also known as the river card, is revealed to the table. By the time the fifth card is flipped right side up, most of the players on the table may have already folded. It is not unusual for the game to come down to two players on the table, with both of them assuming they have the best hand.

Poker Hands

Winning a round of Texas Holdem Poker is all about who has the best hand. From worst to best, the winning hands at Texas Holdem are as follows:

– High Card

– Pair

– Two Pair

– Three of a Kind

– Straight

– Flush

– Full House

– Four of a Kind

– Straight Flush

– Royal Flush

A straight refers to a series of cards in numerical order, such as 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. A flush refers to five cards from the same suit, while a full house is the combination of a pair and a three of a kind.

When players are creating their hand, they are using the best five card combination from the two cards in their hand, and the five cards on the table. For instance, if the five table cards are K, K, Q, Q, A and the player has a K and 2 in their hand, they would have a full house of K, K, K, Q, Q as their final hand.

How Do You Play Poker with Chips:

Playing with chips is no different to playing poker online. Chips are used to show how much money each player has on the table. When players start a poker game amongst each other, they often put in a certain amount of money to the prize pool, such as $50 each. The chips are then divided evenly among the players, and the player who is left standing wins the entire prize pool. Poker chips do not necessarily correspond 1-to-1 to the amount of money put into the prize pool. For instance, a game where four players start with 500 chips each does not necessarily have a $2000 prize pool! The amount of chips in a poker game are almost always a lot more than the total amount of money being put into the game by the players.

Can You Play Online in the United States?

The regulations regarding online poker are a little bit murky in the United States. While it is not expressly legal for companies to operate paid poker sites in most of the country, it is not illegal for participants to join said sites and put money into a poker game. The only state where online poker is completely legal is New Jersey. It is why there are so many New Jersey online poker sites for players to choose from. Most of these sites will use some type of geographical tracking tool to ensure players who are signing up are located in New Jersey.

Other states are also making an effort to legalize poker. The effort to make California online poker legal has been going on for a few years, but it appears as though poker fans may have to wait a little while longer before they can sign up at legally operating poker sites out of California. For now, players will have to rely on sites that are based overseas, but allow players from the United States to sign up, deposit money and withdraw their winnings.
